Marked Since Birth
March 2024
Growing up my mother always warned me about beauty, ”if you have something beautiful hide it, for others will see beauty in it too and atempt to seize it.”
She spoke on the beauty of my rich chocolate skin, the kind that doesnt fold or crease, the kind that shines and glistens, the kind that doesn’t crack or wrinkle.
She’d tell me that this richness has value, that its desired, its beautiful. She warned me that the richness of my skin is deeper than any pocket i could come across. That others see its beauty and mark me, explictly target me.
Marked Since Birth is about the color of my skin being an unremovable target that is constantly reffered to as an excuse. The target symbolizes standing out regardless of how I dress or act; regardless of anything its not something that can be overlooked.
